Description

This large galaxy is at about 42 MLY, according to Wikipedia. Usually presented horizontally, I wound up with a diagonal look because I was too lazy to rotate the camera and decided I liked it better that way anyway.

My first outing since Thanksgiving 2022, I've had my mount repaired and refurbished by the factory and added a completely new OAG and guide camera since then. Very encouraged by the result -- the average guiding during this session was about the same RMS as the very best I could ever reach previously.

For the second session, I experimented with much longer sub-exposure times, and was gratified to see small round stars at five minutes, whereas before I might have thrown out some subs at 1! That will be my go-to from now on, whenever sky conditions permit. A lot easier to handle fewer frames, and the frames are of much higher quality. Whether that really matters too much other than for read noise I dunno, but they're sure a lot nicer to look at.

Title: (3 hours more data and 5x longer subs)

Description: I found that since I greatly upgraded my guiding system and got my mount overhauled by iOptron, 5-minute subs are a thing that can happen. In fact my keeper rate was 100% for this session, when previously even one- or two-minute exposures would yield maybe 80% or less.
